The TQMcube Spam Parser

23 December, 2006

Significant Upgrade to our Spam Recognition Engine

This represents an important milestone in our development. We have replaced our spam daemon with a script that parses the actual spam messsages. We have implemented the new configuration for all participating spam trap domains.

Highlights:

  1. More information is now parsed to the database for analysis.
  2. Vastly improved recognition of spam.
  3. Elimination of false positives when SAV probe meets spam trap.
  4. Recognition of backscatter that was previously presumed to be SAV probes to eliminate false positives. This means that we are now capturing far more backscatter. Backscatter is spam.
  5. Improved statistics which will soon be used to reconfigure our graphics. We are modifying our database back to 2005 for consistency. We expect to have our graphics reconfigured by 30 December, 2006.
  6. Some of our spam traps are created from unused ISP accounts. These will be converted to the new system shortly.
  7. Spam that is actually delivered to local accounts will no longer be parsed to News.admin.net-abuse.sightings. These are now redirected to the server for parsing like all other spam.
